Inspiration
As two very indecisive roommates, Vincent and I are constantly flipping coins and playing rock, paper, scissors to come to conclusions about the simplest things on a daily basis. We wanted something a little more interactive to help us reach our decisions. Now we can use our new battle simulator to reach decisions in a much more epic manner.
What it does
Turn-based strategy game heavily influenced by RNG. Each player is allowed to make a small fireteam by purchasing troops with an amount of credits, and the troops then battle it out 1v1 until one team loses all its units. Each unit has a health, damage and hit chance value.
How we built it
We started with a small idea and coded basic functionality in javascript, then decided to make a GUI in HTML.
Challenges we ran into
First of all, neither of us ha done a hackathon before, so there's that. I showed up late due to a prior obligation and we weren't even sure we wanted to make anything until 9 hours after the hackathon started. We also had very limited experience in Javascript and basically no experience in HTML and CSS.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to create a working product using multiple languages we didn't have very much experience with at all in a very short amount of time. We're happy to have been able to translate the things we're learning to an actual working project.
What we learned
We learned javascript syntax, including creating classes and functions that can be called using buttons on an html page. We also learned how to use html to display information, javascript to update the information, and css to organize the information, including pictures, alerts, and text boxes.
What's next for Star Bores: A New Nope
Possibly adding more characters and a battle scene with some animation
