Inspiration
Inspired by my own struggles growing up in Africa, where I attended a public secondary school without a laboratory, I created StanLab to bridge the gap in science education. I learned that hands-on experience is crucial for understanding scientific concepts, and I wanted to provide that opportunity to students everywhere.
What it does
Our labs are designed to provide students unrestricted access to gamified learning contents that teach them core scientific practical skills such as observation, manipulating equipment, and recording and analysing data, while saving schools costs of running and maintaining traditional labs
How we built it
We've built StanLab using the Unity3D game engine, with highly detailed 3D models created in Blender. Our platform features interactive simulations, a 'Test Your Knowledge' section, and our unique 'Big Question' feature, which uses storytelling and real classroom scenarios to explain lab concepts. Developing StanLab came with challenges, from mastering 3D modeling to optimizing performance for various devices. However, these obstacles only fueled our determination to create a tool that could transform science education.
Today, StanLab offers stunning graphics, engaging content, and even in-app purchases through RevenueCat integration. We're not just teaching science; we're inspiring the next generation of scientists by making learning accessible, interactive, and fun.
Challenges we ran into
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of making the simulations very semaless. We built first for larger screens and now have to adapt to mobile. Also, we have integrated RevenueCat for in-app purchases
What we learned
Alot around making interactions seamless in Unity3D. We built first for larger screens and now have to adapt to mobile
What's next for StanLab Exam-Prep
Refining for mobile to make the user experience great.
