How StandIn Uses Gemini
StandIn is built on Google AI Studio and Antigravity, powered by Gemini 3 , enabling real-time, context-aware communication across languages.
At its core, StandIn leverages Gemini’s native audio streaming and multimodal reasoning to act as an autonomous communication agent—not just a translation tool.
Gemini allows StandIn to:
Process real-time voice for smooth, low-latency conversations.
Recognize and interpret images in real time.
Understand intent and context, including goals, constraints, and sensitivities like dietary restrictions or budgets.
Decompose tasks into structured objectives: goals, required info, red lines, acceptable ranges, and strategies.
Run an intelligent verification loop, clarifying ambiguous details with the other party before relaying confirmed results.
Provide live, non-intrusive suggestions, like allergen alerts, price checks, or hidden cost warnings.
Additionally, for our demo videos, we used Gemini’s raw image generation capabilities to create pictures that match the conversation scenarios.
This deep integration makes StandIn a proactive AI assistant, managing conversations end-to-end, not just translating sentences.
Inspiration
It started with small moments: ordering food, asking for directions, explaining a simple problem. Those moments become awkward because you have to rely on translation tools, which slow things down and bother other people. Most tools focus on translating, then leave you to manage the conversation yourself.
But StandIn gives you an AI agent that communicates on your behalf, helping you complete the conversation smoothly. It speeds up interactions and makes you feel like you have a personal guide handling things for you. With StandIn, you can focus on the conversation itself, without worrying about how to express yourself clearly or choose the right words—StandIn handles all of that for you.
What it does
StandIn is an intelligent, real-time voice translation and negotiation assistant designed to help you navigate complex conversations across languages and cultures. It’s more than just a translation tool—it’s your personal communication assistant, providing dynamic, multi-turn interactions to ensure you're always understood.
Unlike traditional translation apps, StandIn understands the context of your conversations and your objectives. It actively assists you, offering suggestions and handling real-time communication so you can focus on the conversation itself.

How we built it
We built StandIn entirely with Google AI Studio and Antigravity, powered by Gemini 3 Pro, using the following technologies:
- Google Gemini 3 API - for real-time language processing, speech recognition, and context-aware translation.
- React 19 - for building the dynamic and responsive frontend of the app.
- Vite - for fast build times and optimal performance in the frontend development.
- TypeScript - for type safety, better code management, and enhanced development efficiency.
- Tailwind CSS + CLSX - for styling and building a flexible, responsive UI.
- Web Audio API - for capturing and decoding speech to enable real-time voice translation.
- Gemini Function Calling - for managing state, triggering real-time updates, and handling dynamic interactions between the app and backend.
We also implemented:
- Real-time Multimodal API Integration - leveraging Gemini 3’s capabilities to seamlessly handle both voice and text inputs in real-time, ensuring smooth multi-turn conversations.
- Smart Safety Checks - to detect allergens in food and hidden costs in travel plans, providing real-time alerts and suggestions.
- Side Panel Insights - live suggestions for pricing negotiation, budget tracking, and contextual information based on the conversation.
For deployment, we used:
- Google Cloud - for cloud-based compute power and infrastructure scaling.
- Docker - for containerizing the application and ensuring consistency across environments.
- CI/CD Pipeline - for fully automated testing, deployment, and scaling of the application.
We also implemented:
- Low-latency Voice Processing - by leveraging Gemini’s audio streaming technology to ensure real-time, high-accuracy voice translation.
- Intelligent Verification Loop - to confirm ambiguous information before translating, ensuring accuracy and reducing misunderstandings.
- Contextual Adaptation - continuous updates to adapt to the flow of conversation, offering smart negotiation assistance, and ensuring smoother multi-turn dialogues.
