Inspiration
Two years ago I went to Peru and the border officer didn’t stamp my passport; they said it’s all digital records now. I was honestly sad; I love passport stamps to remember my travels and experiences. So I reimagined the experience digitally: a place where I can still “stamp” every journey, track where I’ve been, and add quick notes to capture the little stories that make trips unforgettable.
✈️ countries you’ve visited
🏃♂️ marathons you’ve run
🌍 wonders you’ve seen
and more to come!
A digital passport reimagined.
What it does
Stampie is a travel & experience tracker that turns your adventures into beautiful digital stamps.
- Collect stamps from 195+ countries, world marathons, and even the 7 Wonders.
- Track your progress across continents and collections.
- Take notes to remember stories like a diary.
- All offline: your data stays on your device.
It’s not about likes or followers; just your memories, your way.
How I built it
I started with my expo boilerplate, leaned on react-native libraries I trust, and built the flows quickly with Cursor.*
- AI tools (ChatGPT + image generation) helped craft the visuals for stamps and onboarding.
- Offline-first approach means no server is needed.
- Kept the design minimal, nostalgic, and fun — like flipping through a real passport.
Challenges I ran into
- Creating hundreds of unique stamp designs (AI helped, but polishing them took time).
- Keeping the app lightweight but still beautiful.
- Balancing between journal + tracker without making it feel bloated.
- Saying “no” to social features — keeping it private and simple.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
- Built the MVP in two weeks, with a complete stamp system.
- Designed multiple collections (countries, marathons, wonders).
- Got the style right — nostalgic yet modern.
What I learned
- People want simple, personal tools that don’t feel like social media.
- Visual design matters: stamps feel more rewarding than just numbers.
- Building offline-first apps changes the mindset (local-first > cloud-first).
- Even small touches, like checkmarks and progress bars, make it fun to use.
What's next for Stampie
- Adding more stamp collections (world heritage sites, national parks, concerts…).
- Experimenting with widgets for quick-glance progress.
- Translations & local content for global travelers.
- Eventually: printable passport books to pair with the app.
- Keep making it delightful, one stamp at a time.
