Inspiration

We like stamps and using the makerspaces at William and Mary, so we decided to make Cypher/William and Mary inspired stamps to make in the makerspace. To share these cool stamps with everybody, we made a website to showcase them.

What it does

Stamp of Approval is a website showcasing various W&M themed stamps, which you can make using the STL files or RD files (also known as UFiles) found on the website and using the makerspaces on campus to print them out.

How we built it

We found images that we wanted to make into stamps online. Then, we used RDworks and tinkercad to turn them into .rd and .stl files that others could use. We also utilized the makerspace to actually physically produce prototypes. For the website, we learned how to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to program a website with images of the stamps, how to make them, the files needed to print them, and a link to the WM Makerspaces website for tutorials on how to use the makerspaces on campus.

Challenges we ran into

Connecting our domain name (wmstampofapproval.tech) to our GitHub repository was challenging. The custom domain refused to be verified on GitHub, so we decided to just publish the site under the GitHub name. We also tried to put a favicon on our website, but we couldn't figure it out long term. For the physical things, we had a hard time figuring out what type of material to use for the stamps, and eventually settled on plastic and wood.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We learned how to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to make this project. We also learned how to make stamps in general and use rdworks, tinkercad, and bosslasercutter to create objects to print.

What we learned

How to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. We also learned how to make stamps, and what makes the best type of stamp (it's wood). We also learned to use tinkercad and bosslasercutter to create objects to print.

What's next for Stamp of Approval

More stamps! We think rubber may be a better medium to make stamps, and we'd like to experiment with how to use the makerspaces to make them. We'd like to add more designs to our website and polish the site overall, possibly adding a navigation system.
