Inspiration

The growing concerns around data breaches and personal privacy in a digital world inspired us to create StalkMe. With personal data being more vulnerable than ever, we wanted to empower individuals to take control of their privacy by offering a solution that helps them protect their personal information from unwanted tracking and unauthorized access. Your privacy, your choice!

What it does

StalkMe is a privacy-focused tool that allows users to monitor and safeguard their personal information through their social media accounts. It identifies potential vulnerabilities and alerts users to suspicious activity or data tracking attempts on their devices or online profiles. They can choose if they want to blur their privacy. By offering proactive security measures, StalkMe helps users secure their sensitive data and stay informed about who has access to it.

How we built it

We built StalkMe using a combination of secure data encryption methods, privacy monitoring algorithms, and a user-friendly interface. The backend is powered by a robust framework that detects potential breaches and alerts users in real-time. We also integrated various APIs for security audits like Instagram, Facebook, blogs, and so on, and the front end was designed with simplicity and user accessibility in mind.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was making the API work effectively and ensuring it could accurately identify sensitive information in photos. Integrating the API to detect and process image data required fine-tuning, especially when it came to analyzing complex image content while maintaining accuracy and speed. Additionally, ensuring the privacy and security of users' image data during the analysis process presented a significant technical challenge. Balancing accuracy with data privacy in this area was a critical hurdle that we had to overcome.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are particularly proud of successfully building an easy-to-use privacy protection tool that operates seamlessly in the background, providing constant security without interfering with day-to-day device usage. We're also proud that all the user interfaces were designed by ourselves.

What we learned

Throughout the development of StalkMe, we gained deeper insights into the ever-evolving world of privacy threats and how challenging it can be to make all the code work.

What's next for StalkMe

In the future, we plan to expand StalkMe’s capabilities by integrating more advanced APIs to enhance its ability to detect privacy threats across a wider range of media, including images and documents. Additionally, we aim to develop a mobile version of StalkMe that will provide users with real-time privacy protection on their smartphones. This mobile app will allow users to receive instant notifications, monitor their data security, and take quick action from anywhere, ensuring continuous protection. By optimizing the API and mobile infrastructure, we hope to create a seamless, cross-platform experience for users to safeguard their personal information, whether they're using a desktop, tablet, or smartphone.
