Inspiration
Nowadays, more and more old people have older relatives and parents who have health issues. Recognizing the challenges that older individuals and their relatives face with technology, our goal is to create a simple, intuitive platform that helps relatives easily track and monitor their loved one's health.
What it does
Our program is designed to help relatives easily track and manage the health of elderly patients. It features four main components: Health Tracker, and Medical Information. The Health Tracker provides insights into daily heart rate averages, trends over the past three days, and abnormal health reminders related to oxygen levels, sleep breathing patterns, and step count. It also ensures the proper functioning of health devices and checks if patients are wearing them. The Medical Information section displays prescription details and current appointment statuses to help relatives track missed appointments. The unimplemented AI Summary enables relatives to ask questions based on the patient's health status. This program simplifies health monitoring, offering a user-friendly solution for relatives who may not check the app daily.
How we built it
We used the PERN stack.
Frontend: The front end of our program is built with React.TS. We wanted to ensure a structured project file, so React was a great choice due to components.
Backend: The backend of our program is built using Node.js and Express.js for efficient server-side functionality, while PostgreSQL is used for managing and storing patient data securely.
Challenges we ran into
Another challenge was developing an intuitive user interface suitable for older adults and their relatives, many of whom are not familiar with modern technology. We had to focus on simplicity, accessibility, and readability while still delivering all necessary features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We valued simplicity for this web-app. It's targeted audience if people with old parents, think about your parent interacting with an web-app. We decided our parents would value a user-friendly UI and simple data readings.
We are also proud of our almost AI-Integration, allowing for data-based insights.
What we learned
We learned valuable skills in: AWS, React, Postgres, UI design, Node, Server interaction.
Primarily, we learned to empathize with our end-user.
What's next for Stalk Your Relatives
User authentication, real-time data streams, real-time alerts, finishing AI integration, and migrating to mobile app-store.
