Inspiration

The World is moving towards providing more access to health records to patient, and giving the patient more control over their personal health. With the help of AWS Comprehend Medical, we can do just that.

What it does

Leverages the AWS Comprehend Medical API, to record and organize health data on a daily basis for the patient, without having to access a health facility. All professions have a jargon, and AWS Comprehend Medical has a handle on the Jargon of Medicine, allowing us to leverage these pre-trained model in order to interact with patients more effectively.

How we built it

It was built on AWS Amplify with React, Typescript, AWS CDK, AWS Lambda and AWS Cognito for Auth Management. I used DynamoDB as the Store of choice, with a Data schema based on the payload received from the AWS Comprehend Medical API. I've also used AWS API Gateway to make secure requests to Lambdas via REST API Endpoints. The AWS Comprehend Medical API, is the center piece, leveraging the python language for a limitless trajectory.

Challenges we ran into

I got a lot of CORS issues and some Configuration issues when setting up the DynamoDB Client. The Amplify, API Gateway, Lambdas were a breeze to work with and the AWS Comprehend Medical API was also very easy to work with.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The idea itself is a milestone, and building out a small prototype also feels good. It feels like a good initiative that can work for people from all walks of life and bring a positive impact in the world.

What we learned

The AWS Comprehend Medical API can be a very useful tool and I can't wait to see it evolve, grow and spread to other sectors, languages etc.

What's next for Stagno

Hopefully run an open source project from this, and get other developers onboard to assist in building out a full project with real impact.
