StageZero

Inspiration

We started with a question: what if creating a 3D scene felt like directing a performance? We wanted creators to describe a character, build a setting, and shape an animation without assembling each part in a separate tool.

What it does

StageZero brings character creation, scene building, and motion direction into one browser-based studio. Creators can generate or import characters, build editable scenes from prompts, direct an actor with natural language, and review the result on a timeline. They can extend a performance, create alternate takes, revise actions, and save their project.

How we built it

We built a Python backend around AI motion and character generation, then connected it to a browser-based 3D editor. Scene prompts produce structured geometry that we validate before displaying it. Motion arrives in segments that the studio stores as editable takes. Project files preserve the scene, prompts, and animation for later playback and editing.

Challenges we ran into

Keeping motion continuous across multiple prompts was difficult, especially when a creator changed an earlier action. We also had to handle imperfect generated geometry, fit generated characters to animation rigs, and make sure a failed or late AI request could not overwrite a creator’s work.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We brought characters, scenes, and directed animation into a single workflow. Creators can compare takes, branch from an earlier moment, edit actions on the timeline, and reopen saved projects without regenerating completed motion.

What we learned

AI generation is only the start of a creative tool. People also need reliable ways to inspect, revise, and preserve what they make. Building those controls taught us to treat continuity and predictable editing as core parts of the experience.

What's next for StageZero

We want to improve motion quality and character rigging, make scene interactions more convincing, and give creators finer control over how multiple actors perform together.
