Inspiration
bold When I was attending a Vancouver Canucks Hockey game. Sitting there, watching the game, I started to look around and noticed fans were staring at their phones and not the jumbotron. I also noticed the fans were not engaged in the game as they once were before we had smartphones. I also noticed when a chant came on the jumbotron screen, 10% of the crowd joined in. I realized it was because everyone was looking at their smartphone. I was curious, if the chant that was on the jumbotron was on thier smartphone, would they start chanting, and following the words? So, I thought, why not build a mobile app that poeple could open, vote for a chant, the chant that gets the most votes automatically plays on their phone and people can follow that chant until the end? Vote again on more chants, chant again, and so on...
What it does
bold people login to applicaton on phone, using GPS, search the venue and select the correct address. The next screen has list of chants to vote for, a countdown from 30 seconds to 0 seconds is counting down, the chants that has the most votes starts to play and shows the lyrics like karoke. At the end of the chant, the screen goes back to the list of chants ready for voting within a 30 second window.
How we built it For Android and iPhone
Challenges we ran into
bold were making sure we had list of popular chants. Also, when people select the venue, they user GPS, so it's easy to select a venue with a different cordinate, so we need to make the App suggest the venue or people won't join the same venue to vote. The app creates a voting page for each GPS location. So it's important that the users select for example Rogers Arena. Wifi needs to be robust enough in location. Cellular also works but if a user does not have cellular then wifi needs to have continuous signal.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
bold are when made the prediction of how to create a page for each GPS location. And, watching the vote happen and the song/chant play after then it resets to voting.
What we learned
bold it takes alot of time, money and troubleshooting to get it perfect. Its still far from perfect and theres so much more that needs to go into it but there is not enough resources available to continue at this point. It's like a lemonaide stand. You can have the bare minimum to sell lemons, that will only get you minimum sales, but if you jazz up the lemonaide stand then you will have lots of sales. We only have the bare minimum right now with no jazz. It needs lots of jazz and enhancements to take it to the level it deserves. It has lots of potential. There's more than just the chant game, there's other stadium games that can be added and also API to create for integration for the stadiums commerce.
What's next for Stadium Games
bold Hopefully an investor will invest in the future of the application. We can add Graphics and more functionality and start approaching sports teams, stadiums, and sponsors etc.
