Inspiration

As a professional in corporate management at an MEP firm, I witnessed the immense "admin drain"—skilled project managers and finance teams bogged down by manual data entry and disconnected spreadsheets. STACORP was born from a desire to bridge the gap between field operations and corporate financial strategy using the power of AI.

What it does

STACORP is an intelligent automation layer that connects daily construction activities with high-level financial reporting. It interprets complex operational data, automates variation tracking, and drafts payment applications. By integrating AI agents into existing workflows (VBA, Power Automate), it ensures that no variation goes unbilled and every margin leak is plugged in real-time.

How I built it

I leveraged OpenAI's GPT-4 and Codex to bridge legacy systems with modern automation.

• Core Logic: Developed using Excel VBA and Office.js for immediate field usability.
• Orchestration: Power Automate handles cross-platform data flows between emails, site reports, and corporate databases.
• Intelligence: OpenAI APIs interpret natural language site notes to update financial registers automatically.

Challenges I ran into

The primary challenge was data standardization across diverse construction sites. MEP data is highly specific; training the system to accurately differentiate between mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components in non-standard field notes required extensive prompt engineering and fine-tuning of the mapping logic.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

• Successfully automating the generation of complex monthly financial reports that previously took days.
• Creating a seamless "human-in-the-loop" system where AI drafts, but experts approve, maintaining 100% financial compliance and auditability.

What I learned

I discovered that AI is a reasoning engine, not just a chatbot. Integrating it into traditional construction ERP workflows doesn't require a total "rip-and-replace," but rather a smart layer of intelligent orchestration.

What's next for STACORP

The goal is to expand STACORP into a full-scale AI-Agent platform for the entire construction lifecycle, integrating deeper into BIM (Building Information Modeling) and real-time supply chain procurement.
