Challenges
Crowded classes limit progress and reduce freedom to act. People with special skills have certain requirements, which cannot be covered in every school. The shortage of teachers (in some countries) may cause a pressure on staff. The recognition of individual strengths is very limited or even not available. Not all the students can keep up with the content at the same pace. The changeover to independent learning or to replace lessons for special situations likeCOVID-19. Learning content is enormous, the path to the goal and the correlation between subjects are difficult to detect and to follow.
Motivation
The learning system has been changing, especially with COVID-19. By the fact that the education system should develop freely from a certain minimum and everyone learns according to his own interests, we reach new levels of knowledge. Through the intrinsic motivation the next generation will come much further than imaginable today.
Solution
SQUL in an innovative and ambitious product, which has the learner’s experience and uniqueness as its core. The platform will be completely customizable and able to provide lifelong learning support, both for the novice and the experienced learner, thanks to the possibility to choose among different kinds of courses available at any time and anywhere (we plan to start with the development of a mathematics course, see document attached).
Key features and benefits
- Adapting courses to different types of learners.
- SQUL covers different motivation models: a) intrinsic b) self-determined, extrinsic c) non self-determined extrinsic motivation d) player motivation
- Learning tree with deepening possibilities for particular topics, lessons.
- Co-working / Co-learning with other students
- Digital educational companion. This companion assists as a guide (where to go), consultant (what to do) , analyser (how to improve / change something)
- There are different settings for your learning tree. We consider at first 2 options. The student can learn all relevant subjects for the particular class (class system) or study a subject in depth (level system)
- The student can configure, plan and track their own progress.
Next steps
- Creation of user stories based on the users’ needs
- Define requirements
- Create a design prototype for Desktop, Tablet and cell phone
- UX study with selected persons from the target group
- Evaluate the results, feedbacks
- Improve the Design and put content of one or more lessons
- Evaluate the results, feedbacks
- Vote on data protection, security
- DevOps topics (BuildEnv, Jenkins, Artifacts etc.)
- Creation of the software architecture. We will focus at first on the Desktop and Tablet versions
- Creation of requirements with the links between several levels (feature, architecture, detailed design, tests)
- Implementation of additional features for MVP
- Conducting a study with selected persons from the target group
- Collect, evaluate, group, prioritize, implement feedback, etc.
- Survey among others teachers, school board, ministry of education
- Starting the pilot project in a school
- Survey among others teachers, school board, ministry of education
- Implementation of feedbacks
- Cell Phone Support (Android OS, iOS)
- Collect, evaluate, group, prioritize, implement feedback, etc.
