Inspiration

The real spark for Squishy Pet Tycoon came directly from my two amazing kids. They are absolutely obsessed with fidgets and squishy's, and I spent so much time watching them play, collect, and trade them that I realized there was a perfect opportunity to bring that joy into a digital space. I wanted to capture the physical satisfaction they get from a slow-rise foam dumpling or a clacking flexi-dragon and translate it into a highly reactive sandbox. I didn't want just another "clicker" game: I wanted to blend the high-stakes thrill of blind-box collecting with the cozy, flow-state relaxation that my kids find in their own toy collections.

What It Does

Squishy Pet Tycoon is a mobile-first, tactile ASMR collector game and sandbox built for Meta Horizon. It transforms the flat glass of a mobile screen into a highly reactive, cozy digital desktop. Players collect, squish, and breed an adorable assortment of soft-body pets like Flexi-Plastic Dragons, Sticky Silicone Slimes, and Kawaii Foam Dumplings.

Every tap physically deforms the toys, triggers deeply satisfying ASMR audio like a plastic clack or a doughy squelch, and generates Hype Coins. Players use this currency to buy new Gacha capsules or merge fully leveled pets in the in-world Combine Forge to discover rare genetic mutations. It also features a social layer called Cooperative Fusion, where friends can visit your desk and toss one of their own squishies into the Forge with yours to craft entirely new multiplayer-exclusive hybrids!

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I actually run a small 3D printing business where I make physical articulated dragons and fidget toys, so successfully translating that real-world tactile joy into a purely digital mobile experience is something I am incredibly proud of. It really proves that sometimes the simple pleasures in life are the most satisfying! Nailing that sensory euphoria and relaxing flow state was my primary design pillar. I also figured out how to make waiting on a timer an active, satisfying fidget interaction through the Combine Forge speed-up button, which was a major breakthrough for the game's feel.

I am equally proud of the social mechanics, specifically Safe Desk Permissions combined with Cooperative Fusion. Finding a way to make a cozy, stress-free solo simulation instantly collaborative without introducing any griefing or anxiety about visitors messing up a prized collection feels like a massive win for the design. Finally, bringing together a comprehensive, professional pitch package as a single person has been a huge personal milestone.

What's next for Squishy Pet Tycoon

Right now, my immediate focus is executing the 8-week sprint outlined in my Production Plan to bring the MVP to life for the competition. I am tackling the core soft-body physics and TypeScript interaction logic in Phases 1 and 2, ensuring the solo loop feels absolutely perfect before layering in the Combine Forge.

Once the core is validated, I will be moving on to Phase 5: The Social Expansion, which fully networks the Visitor Portal and Cooperative Fusion mechanics. Looking beyond the MVP, I plan to introduce Spatial Desk Expansions so players can display up to 50 kinetic toys at once, roll out Seasonal Gacha Machines featuring limited-edition holiday textures, and eventually build a global Flea Market Trading system so the community can hunt down and safely swap the exact shapes and textures they need to complete their dream desks!
