Inspiration

Today's Social networks are mostly virtual and the pandemic has broken any little real world connections that technology had spared. Real world interactions have inevitably taken a back seat as virtual social networks continue to "connect" the world (superficially!). With Squircle we want to enhance the way people meet in real life than replace it :) Squircle aims to rebuild post pandemic social networks, helping you beat loneliness thereby boosting mental health. We want promote dying local businesses while new Squircles get formed in the locality.

What it does

Squircle allows for spontaneous socializing in three simple steps.

  1. Create only a microprofile and experience serendipitous encounters any day - any where
  2. Squee in to your favourite local spot and find new people to add to your Squircle
  3. Foster your Squircle of Friends by Chatting/Planning new Squees!

How we built it

Currently we have prototyped the application as a mobile app on Adobe XD. The application is under active development using react-native to provide cross platform support. We have chosen Firebase and FireStore to authenticate users and manage user profiles.

Challenges we ran into

The team was completely new to Mobile Application development and found it challenging to choose appropriate frameworks that supported needs of this project. We also didn't have experience with UI/UX and we learnt to prototype designs and concept we had in mind.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Understanding and working with completely new technologies in the given time constraints
Learning to develop wireframes and mocks for the UI design

What we learned

Ideating and Rapid Prototyping
Working with new technologies like React-native, Google Cloud Firebase, Android App Development.

What's next for Squircle - A real world social networking app

We would like to work on threat models and finish the MVP.
