Inspiration

I love making creatures using art and scripting to give them realistic, organic motion. All the tools are there in the Horizon editor to achieve this so I want to spread the innovation to others and see it more in Horizon Worlds

What it does

Squid City is an interactive and immersive world made to capture the interest of players with its lore suggested through its art, and provide fun and engaging activities to keep players coming back. The main game in the world is called "Catch the Squid" which challenges players to catch as many squids as they can and store them safely in the squid disposal bins. They jump around randomly and also escape the clutches of players, creating a good mix of challenge and frustration which makes it all the more satisfying when you succesfully capture a squid.

How we built it

I made use of both the Horizon Desktop Editor and VR editor to achieve the final build. The AI assistant was also valuable in creating the scripts for much of the organic motion in the world. Some assets in the world were also created using GenAI

Challenges we ran into

Although the AI assistant is very useful, it also has a lot of issues verifying it's own work often resulting in it attempting to fix bugs that don't exist.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The art I created to immerse players in this world, and attention to detail on the squid catching game to make it feel very satisfying and addictive.

What we learned

I learned everything I know about the Horizon Worlds Desktop Editor and trimesh from building this world.

What's next for Squid City

I want to continue adding fun activities, games and interactive elements to keep players engaged and eager to return.
