Inspiration

Each of our individual personal nightmarish experiences with campus bathrooms inspired us to make this lifesaving tool.

What it does

Find and rate bathrooms around Binghamton University.

How we built it

Trade secret.

Challenges we ran into

Installing Django, deleting Django, understanding sockets and threads in Python, dealing with the Google Maps API, understanding SSL to get HTTPS working, and motivation, and sleep.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of managing the Google Maps API, proud of getting a domain name/server/https setup, proud of installing Django even though we deleted it.

What we learned

Lots of experience with Javascript and using APIs.

What's next for Squat Spots

Right now everything is hardcoded as we had trouble with the backend, we'd like to get user interaction up and running.

I balanced between the front-end and back-end focusing mainly on the Google Map API with javascript and using sockets.

I worked on setting up the database interaction (which we didn't end up using because we couldn't connect it to the front end), and I set up the domain name, apache, https, all of that sysadmin stuff.

I worked front-end in HTML & CSS designing the web-page itself, however the bulk of my work lied in Google maps API with javascript.

I worked solely on backend to try to create a server to connect the database and the Google Map's map API using sockets.
