Problem

Many people struggle to learn new programs due to time restraints and feeling overwhelmed. Traditional online courses often follow a fixed, universal approach, making it difficult for busy students and professionals to stay consistent. This lack of adaptability leads to frustration and discourages long-term learning.

Solution

To make skill-building more accessible and effective, we developed a personalized learning platform that adapts to each user's schedule and provides AI-powered guidance for a more flexible and supportive learning experience.

Research

• Online courses on popular websites like Udemy and Skillshare have a 80% drop off rate, and a completion rate of 4%. • Common reasons for the low completion rates of online courses are lack of structure, limited support, and limited accountability • Online learning and training can improve employee performance by 15% to 25%

Inspiration

We felt inspired to create a solution to users' experience using online course tools, centering our deliverable around the Design No Code track. To bridge the gap between wanting to learn a skill and actually mastering it, we created a tailored learning platform that works around each user's schedule and gives custom assistance powered by AI.

What it does

SquarEd is a personalized learning tool that assists users in mastering softwares (ex. Figma, Excel) by designing a study schedule and curated learning lessons according to their availability. Users simply enter the number of hours they can devote each day, and the program provides a personalized timeline that divides the learning process into manageable segments. SquarEd's AI-powered assistance delivers real-time support by answering questions, explaining ideas, and delivering direction tailored to each user's progress. This ensures that learners remain motivated, on schedule, and receive the structured support they require to flourish.

How we built it

We designed SquarEd through Figma, creating numerous sketches and low-fidelity wireframing. With zero code, we produced high-fidelity wireframes, creating SquarEd.

Challenges we ran into

One of challenge we faced was finding the right balance between brainstorming and execution, as we were eager to explore multiple ideas before settling on a clear direction. Communicating entirely online was also another challenge as it required extra coordination, but it also helped us develop strong collaboration and adaptability skills.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of the level of prototyping in our design, designing a highly functional aesthetic, and our innovative AI driven thinking.

What we learned

One of our biggest takeaways was learning the importance of not getting caught up in the small details and instead prioritizing what truly drives an impact to keep our project moving. We also learned the importance of communication, especially with this online setting. Clear discussions and regular check-ins helped us be efficient problem solvers.

What's next for SquarEd

Our next steps for SquarEd is expanding its course offerings to cover more in-demand skills like SQL, Photoshop, Power BI, and advanced programming languages. We also intend to improve the platform by including AI-powered tutoring and a community forum to encourage involvement and support. Furthermore, SquarEd intends to expand accessibility by creating a mobile app and offering certificates to assist users demonstrate their skill set to employers.
