Inspiration
As two guys with a school friendship group who like to meet up occasionally, we are often at wits end simply trying to decide on a location to eat that fits our needs. Ideally, we want it a fair distance away from everybody, at a decent price and catering for everyone's dietary needs. This proves to be really difficult to coordinate on WhatsApp for instance, so we set out to devise a solution.
What it does
Our program takes into consideration multiple user location data and dietary preferences and then puts out a list of restaurants that are (a) equidistant from the users and (b) acquiescent to dietary needs.
How we built it
With a LOT of help from the mentors we managed to build this using Python, the very handy Google Maps API's and Flask.
Challenges we ran into
The challenges were endless. With only a basic syntax knowledge of Python, the very notion of importing multiple libraries and debugging proved to be very frustrating. However we are very proud of the progress we made in this short weekend.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Whilst it lacks a UI, I think our program at its core solves the issue that we set out to solve. And with that, we are very happy.
What we learned
The process of coding is tough. It is not to be underestimated and we should definitely hold back on ideating grandiose visions whilst so limited by coding ability. But, onwards and upwards.
