Inspiration
The originators of the idea, Irfan and Heisen, found their inspiration while walking down Campus Road upon noticing and remarking on the diverse styles of people in their vicinity. This discussion evolved further into how difficult it is for a lot of people to shop sustainably and dress to express themselves satisfactorily and eventually the proposal of an app as a means of solution to this problem.
What it does
LookBook aims to alleviate the tedium of tailoring a favorable and coherent set of apparel to match users' personal styles in their day-to-day life. In doing this, we also aspire to steer users to shop sustainably by optimizing apparel recommendations based on their personal preferences, occasion, existing apparel, and other parameters.
How we built it
The main technology used to build this application is the Flutter SDK. Thus far, all of the business logic in the application as well as the user interface are written in Dart with Flutter to ensure tight coupling and reduce technological dependencies. Figma is used for the bulk of the designing of this app.
Challenges we ran into
A lot of the business logic of the application requires external technologies that are beyond our familiarity. Further, the technologies that we considered, such as third-party APIs to help with consolidating data, require a significant financial commitment to use. We have elected to focus on the user experience for the purposes of this event and will seek solutions to the challenges going forward in the future.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have prototyped and produced a working demo of the application in less than 24 hours. A significant amount of the time was used to formulate and flesh out ideas for this application (as well as consider other ideas).
What we learned
Each of our team members was delegated different tasks, hence we have all learned specific skills in specific technologies that made this app possible. Generally, we became a lot more familiar with software development paradigms, specifically for mobile apps. We also became familiar with the tools that we used to make this app.
What's next for LookBook
The first thing is to acquire feedback for our app that we conjured this weekend. Then, we would like to polish the idea more fully, down to the minutiae of the user experience. We will refactor the application to ensure scalability, maintainability, and marketability in the future, and eventually approach potential investors to financially back our project to bring it to an industrially competitive standing, where we would then champion sustainability practices.
