Inspiration

In today’s modern world, investing has become a new trend. With information at the click of the button, the possibilities of investments become endless. For teens like me, who are amateurs at investing, this information overload can be overwhelming. After all, how do I know what to invest in? This is what inspired Sproutific — a way of helping users find the best, sustainable investments easily. I was also disappointed to see the lack of intersection between finance and environment, and I want this project to solve that in our world.

What it does

Sproutific is a hub for information and services. You can open the website to find information regarding ESG (environment, sustainability and governance), have easy resources to access other links, and even use the investment portfolio tracker, which lets you track all your investments on an easy to use, friendly interface.

How we built it

I prototyped the project and focused on design, future implementation as well as brand image on figma. I then used css and html to code the website on QOOM, which has the home page functioning. Then, I used python to code a simple tracker for portfolio which is linked in the replit. QOOM did a great job of helping me bring this all together (having everything accessible on one website) and figma really helped me see where this project could go in the future.

Challenges we ran into

I had no prior experience at all with HTML and CSS — this was my very first project. It was challenging because I had many features I wanted to implement, and really little time. I solved this by using figma to give the judges a general idea of what direction I want to take, and enough code to show that with time, I can get there. Also, I had trouble using buttons on HTML, as I wasn't familiar with relative positioning. I used absolute positioning, which was tedious but got the work done. Also, linking to websites and understanding HTML was challenging and took many hours of tutorials for me to understand. Also, some of the buttons aren't operating fully yet, because of lack of time — however, I'm confident the general gist is in my final product.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm proud of the final product, the website looks aesthetically pleasing, and I am proud of the way I used figma to make the coding process much easier

What we learned

By challenging myself with using coding, I was really happy with the result and I learned that HTML is extremely useful, especially paired with a tool like figma. I hope to use both these tools again. ALso, I learned the importance of having a great idea I am passionate about

What's next for Sproutific

In the future, I’d love to develop these services further. Figma gives a quick idea of what it may look like. For example, live chatting with professional consultants, a place where you can read the latest fintech and sustainability news, more complex data analysis to help you compare companies, and even more. I want to make this a long term project where I can develop more complex features later as I learn more about programming
