Inspiration

We were inspired by the plant-like creatures in the video game Pikmin along with its fun cartoonish style. We collectively agreed that we needed to increase our physical activity during the day, which motivated us to create a game-like fitness application.

What it does

We created Sprout Steps with a vision to combine health, fun, and community into one seamless experience. Inspired by the desire to make fitness more engaging, we built an app that transforms your daily steps into a currency to nurture and grow virtual plants. We wanted to give users a tangible reward for staying active, so we added features like tracking your plant's growth over the past week and competing with friends for a sense of healthy competition.

How we built it

Throughout this journey, we learned how to create fun and aesthetically pleasing UI using Flutterflow that keeps users engaged while making their fitness goals feel accessible and enjoyable. We focused on designing a user interface that was intuitive yet playful using widgets and animations, ensuring every interaction, from tracking steps to purchasing items for their virtual plant, felt smooth and rewarding.

Challenges we ran into

As a group of beginners at their first hackathon, it was hard for us to know where to start, what resources to use, and how much we could complete as a team. Knowing what UI elements would look/work best along with how to connect the various widgets via user interactions was also a huge challenge as we worked through unfamiliar bugs together.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of completing our first hackathon and creating a cohesive product in the end even when going in with zero knowledge :).

What's next for Sprout Steps

As a team, we agreed that Sprout Steps is 100% a project that we would like to develop during the rest of the year. We want to make it fully functional, add additional biomes, shop items, and illustrate assets from scratch.
