Inspiration

A notable barrier for women entering in STEM is due to the lack of self confidence and role models in the industry. Often this can manifest itself as imposter syndrome, which can deter women from continuing down STEM. Therefore, to address this issue, we designed Sprout, an all inclusive wellness web app to provide a safe space for women in stem to share their experiences, connect with others, and remind them that they got it

What it does

Using Sprout, users can connect and discuss feelings of imposter syndrome with others who may be feeling the same through the discussion forum. Furthermore, there is an achievement board where users can log wins - of any kind - so that they can be reminded of things they've done when feeling down. Additionally, Sprout included journalling and meditation resources for general wellness. Finally, Sprout displays female role models in STEM that users can read up on to share the accomplishments of other women within a field dominated by men.

How we built it

The design of the web app was drafted in Figma. The front-end was then built using React and the Chakra UI components library.

Challenges we ran into

Building a web app within a few hours and little experience is most definitely a challenge. As such, we mostly predominantly worked on the front-end components and drafting out the overall design of the product.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we got a presentable site within the limited we had to work on our Hack.

What we learned

This was ur first time using the Chakra UI library. It was insightful using the library components to speed up front-end development.

What's next for Sprout

Next steps include connecting the Role Models feature to an API so that the daily role models can change each day. Additionally, next steps includes further developing features such as the discussion forum, meditation, and journaling, alongside implementing user authentication.
