Inspiration
We often saw UT's sprinkler systems continuously going even after a rainy day, which wastes water and hurts vegetation. We wanted to fix this problem.
What it does
Our program uses OpenWeatherMap's API and takes in forecasted weather data for the upcoming week and recommends to the user how much they should water their garden and on what days they should turn their sprinkler on. We do this based on the user's inputs of what climate zone they live in and what city they live in.
How we built it
We built it using the API mentioned above and Python.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into countless challenges working with the API because the data wasn't being received properly for a long time, but we were eventually able to get it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of being able to create a final, working product.
What we learned
We learned how to work with API's and create external surveys from Python. Additionally, we learned a lot about sustainability and how much water is wasted by people every year.
What's next for Sprinkler Recommendation System
We will continue to develop better changes to this system to make it more user-friendly and advanced.
