Inspiration
One of our team members’ grandmother was detected with Parkinson’s a few years back. Disturbed by the agonies of old age, we decided to be the change we wish to see in the world. Technology that was created as an effort to reduce the barriers between people has sadly backfired for the senior citizens who are mostly excluded from the tech domain. We have an aim to make senior citizens tech friendly and reduce the levels of depression, loneliness, isolation, dementia, etc. in the senior citizens age group.
What it does
We are creating a platform that will assist in early detection of Parkinson’s and other age related ailments. We plan to achieve a holistic development of the senior citizens through our platform. We have been actively taking up surveys to improve ourselves. We have made use of machine learning, web development and app development in order to achieve our preliminary goals. We believe learning is a journey and not a destination and so , all of us are continuously looking for ways to improve our platform by incorporating different technologies.
How we built it
We have amalgamated detection systems, virtual yoga instructor, medical professionals, game developers, vendors, and our end users with a highly interactive and accessible platform. In near future, we intend to create a research lab for this purpose wherein the probing and development shall take place. The researchers will belong to different domains: computer science, psychology, and medicine. A convivial online community for discussions, video conferencing, playing games together, attending seminars and sessions and listening to songs together/Karaoke. The idea of bringing medics who specialise in various domains and counsellors will also be incorporated as the users can chat and consult them about various problems.
Sometimes, small adjustments such as larger buttons, soothing colours, simple layout and an interactive chatbot on the screen can make a substantial difference in terms of usability by older persons, helping them cope with everyday tasks.
We have provided the helpline numbers for the user to call if the user is facing social isolation, financial penury, abuse, and neglect. Our product also has an option for eBooks and audiobooks which the users can use as a reference material or read them. Some of them will be paid services while some will be provided for free.
Challenges we ran into
1- Connecting ML Model with our web application 2- Deciding Color scheme suitable for elderly. 3- Integerating Payment gateway
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Microsoft Imagine Cup 2022 India Runner Up
NetApp Women Innovathon 2022 Among top 15 teams from over 100+ teams
Microsoft Epic Challenge 2022 ASIA RUNNER-UP : Lifestyle
Republic Day Petrichor in Innovative India- 2022 First Position
IEEE Ideathon Challenge 2021 Among the top 4 teams
What we learned
1- Having teammates with similar temperament is very crucial. If you have the right one, believe me half of the job is already done. 2- Rejections help a lot in improving your project. 3- Prioritising and time management is important. Submission date won’t wait for college exams, practicals, assignments etc. 4- You will not always end up winning but what you learn during the process justifies it all.
What's next for Spring
We have an optimistic future for our idea. We eagerly want to scale it to new heights. Participating in hackathons and talking to a variety of people gives us profound feedback and scope for improvement. We want to make SPRING a part of every senior citizen's lifestyle.
Aging won’t be the autumn of your life. Aging will be the new SPRING.
