Inspiration
It's becoming easier and easier to invest in small quantities through mobile apps, and yet this democratization of access has not been accompanied by an equal democratization of information. Sprife believes that it's time to change this. When the democratization of investment is combined with easy to access information about company's ESG records, investors values will finally be able to transform the world.
What it does
SprifeApp is put simply an ESG calculator. You tell it what issues you are invested and what companies you are invested in, and it tells you what their track records are.
How we built it
We took data from Private ESG Rating Agency's APIs and then programmed a UI that allowed users to tell us what ESG values are important to them, after which we could give them an idea of whether the company was a good fit for them.
Challenges we ran into
Many of the APIs we had hoped to take data from were not able to provide us with Keys in time, which severely limited the scope of our backend.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the concept we were able to ideate and implement for our frontend, as well as the mission statement we have operated under ("invest your values").
What we learned
We learned that some problems take patience to move past, but there is always something to be done in the meantime.
What's next for Sprife App-ESG Investment Calculator
We'd like to add more existing data from State Agencies like the EPA's APIs as well as Private ESG Scoring Agencies APIs to create more precise scores for companies. We'd also like to expand our current catchment of companies to truly reflect the broad spectrum of companies an investor might be interested. Finally we'd like to add more fine tuned data visualization and formatting tools.
