Inspiration

We were inspired by the need to make local air-quality data easier to understand and help people quickly identify pollution hotspots in their area using their postcode.

What it does

Our detection system uses current OpenAQ nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) measurements to identify areas with higher pollution levels. Users enter their postcode, and the website finds the relevant air-quality data and displays the highest NO₂ concentration recorded there today. This allows users to quickly identify potential pollution hotspots in their local area.

How we built it

We built the website using HTML, CSS and Python, connecting it to the OpenAQ API to access real-time air-quality measurements. Users enter their postcode, which is used to find relevant monitoring locations. The website then retrieves the NO₂ measurements recorded today, processes the data and identifies the concentration for that postcode and also displays the highest nitrogen dioxide concentration in the Uk. We designed the interface to present the result clearly, making complex air-quality data easier for users to understand and helping them quickly identify potential pollution hotspots.

Challenges we ran into

We had difficulties linking the European Space Data and also getting a vast access from API as there were some information that we required to be paid for. The code format was a little bit perplexing and confusing

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We our proud of how we got to extract code from these sources. As that was one of the most confusing code to write and execute. If it was actually a published website it would be so beneficially for not just our health but our environment. IT would give people a fact check , to take more people transport, go walking ang grow more trees.

What we learned

We learned how to work with real- world environmental data, use some information from the APIs to retrieve air-quality information, and build a website that turns complex data into simple, accessible information for users.

What's next for Spotting Air Quality Anomalies

We could expand the map to include other countries and we could also include API Data for future days , as of now the current data is set only for data.
