Campus parking is often frustrating and inefficient, with students, faculty, and staff spending valuable time searching for open spots, facing unexpected fines, and dealing with congestion. Existing solutions lack real-time enforcement alerts, predictive availability, and user-driven reporting, making it difficult to plan ahead. Spotter addresses these challenges by providing AI-powered parking tracking, real-time enforcement notifications, and smart alternative suggestions to create a more efficient and stress-free parking experience.
Spotter is an AI-powered parking assistant designed specifically for college campuses. It helps students, faculty, and staff find available parking in real time while also providing live alerts on parking enforcement activity. Our team developed Spotter as an interactive prototype in Figma, ensuring a high-fidelity design that reflects our commitment to solving campus parking inefficiencies. The solution prioritizes real-time accuracy to deliver reliable availability updates, secures partnerships with parking operators and municipalities for seamless integration, and adheres to legal and compliance requirements related to regulations, liability, and data privacy. Spotter also distinguishes itself in a competitive market by offering a more advanced and user-friendly experience, while maintaining a strong technical infrastructure capable of handling high traffic and ensuring security.
Parking issues remain a significant concern for students. Studies indicate that 65 percent of students at Truman State University find it difficult to secure parking close to campus, and 62 percent of those who did not purchase a parking pass cited cost as the primary reason. Additionally, 60 percent of students feel there are insufficient parking spaces, while 86 percent believe parking is an issue that needs to be addressed at their university. Further research shows that 50 percent of students often park far from their destinations, and 60 percent of Truman students consider parking on campus to be highly important.
The next steps for Spotter include converting the prototype into a fully functional SwiftUI application, developing interactive components to refine the UI/UX experience for iOS users, and integrating Fetch.AI for OtterSight to enhance AI-driven insights. Usability testing will be conducted to gather feedback and iterate on the design, ensuring optimal functionality. The project will conclude with a pilot launch at select university campuses to assess real-world performance and scalability.
