Our inspiration stemmed from the daily challenges faced by individuals seeking accessible parking. Witnessing the struggles firsthand sparked a drive to create a solution that not only locates spots but prioritizes accessibility. Understanding the importance of inclusive urban mobility, we aimed to empower communities, particularly those with disabilities, while advocating for sustainable practices with EV charging integration. This fusion of social impact and technological innovation fueled our passion to develop a truly inclusive parking app.

What it does

Our app simplifies the parking process by swiftly identifying nearby parking spaces, prioritizing disabled reserved spots, and locating EV chargers. Its intuitive interface offers the user an easy method provide input, real-time availability, aiding users in navigating to suitable parking options conveniently. Specifically designed to enhance accessibility, it ensures equitable access for individuals with disabilities while promoting sustainable urban mobility through EV charger integration.

How we built it

To craft our parking app, we harnessed the power of various APIs like Geoapify, leveraging their robust functionalities. Geoapify facilitated precise location mapping, enabling us to pinpoint available parking spaces, disabled reserved spots, and EV chargers accurately. Additionally, we utilized other APIs for real-time data on parking availability, accessibility features, and EV charging station statuses. This integration of APIs empowered us to create a seamless user experience, combining diverse datasets for comprehensive and reliable information within our app's intuitive interface.

Challenges we ran into

While developing our parking app, several challenges emerged. Integration of various APIs posed initial hurdles due to different data formats and update frequencies. Ensuring real-time accuracy for parking availability and EV charger statuses required constant synchronization with multiple external sources. Addressing the diverse needs of users, especially those with disabilities, demanded meticulous UI design and comprehensive data collection. Moreover, the reliability of location data and the consistency of mapping disabled reserved spots presented technical complexities

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We take immense pride in achieving several milestones with our parking app. Successfully implementing multiple APIs enriched our app's functionality, providing users with comprehensive and real-time parking information, including disabled reserved spots and EV charger locations.

Moreover, our app's focus on aiding individuals with disabilities stands as a testament to our commitment to inclusivity. By prioritizing accessibility features and highlighting disabled reserved spots, we've contributed to fostering a more equitable and accommodating society.

Furthermore, our advocacy for newer and greener technologies, specifically EVs, has been a cornerstone of our mission. Integrating EV charger locations into our app not only promotes sustainable transportation but also encourages the adoption of eco-friendly practices in urban mobility.

What we learned

Developing this parking app taught us invaluable lessons. We mastered Flask, leveraging its capabilities to create a robust and scalable backend system. Integration of APIs was a significant learning curve, understanding their nuances and effectively utilizing them for real-time data updates.

Researching the state of parking infrastructure revealed challenges and opportunities. Understanding the landscape of parking facilities, especially in India, highlighted the need for improved accessibility and better information dissemination. Exploring the distribution and accessibility of EV chargers in India deepened our understanding of sustainable mobility and highlighted areas for growth in charging infrastructure.

What's next for SPOTT..

Improving on-street parking data, including information about parking meters, is crucial for enhancing the overall parking experience. India, like many other countries, faces challenges related to on-street parking management. Collaborating with municipal authorities, integrating data from parking meters, and updating real-time information about available spaces can significantly benefit users.

Our aim is to work closely with relevant authorities to incorporate on-street parking meter data into our app. This collaboration would not only improve the accuracy of available parking information but also contribute to efficient parking management in urban areas. By integrating and regularly updating data from parking meters across India, we strive to provide users with comprehensive and up-to-date information for a smoother parking experience.
