Inspiration
Our inspiration for this project stems from our own lack of knowing what to do on weekends. We figured one of us having a car would make things more interesting but we end up just going to food places and spending money. On top of that, the virus makes it harder for us to go to public places. That’s when we realized that having a map solely for the purposes of finding secluded or secret spots could help us tremendously. We would discover new areas, and since it would be recommended to us by our friends we would be inclined to go. This would also be turned into a fitness idea, when we allow people to pin workout locations, or outdoor hiking spots on their maps for their friends to see. Our intention was to have an explore page consisting of the user’s “favorite spots” and similar spots to the ones they visit. This would add a social aspect to hiking or visiting outdoor spots that didn’t exist already. Down the road we would’ve even allowed users to upload images of them at the spot.
What it does
Our app currently has limited functionality, but we are on our way to having a full social network! Right now out app supports user authentication, and has a few maps loaded.
How we built it
We built it on React Native.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges include issues with Firebase, along with our understanding of function components in React.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our auth flow and maps work!
What we learned
All!
What's next for Spots
Much to come.
