Ever wonder where the hot events are right besides you? Facebook events tells a lot, but not how popular they are (and you have to invited first). You might also look for some hot tweets, but how do you know if they are around you and if they are, where exactly? SpotOn combines the power of both Facebook and Twitter to give you a comprehensive, real-time view of all the popular events that are happening nearby you. With the helps of Facebook and Twitter API, we first look for all the Facebook events that have the address close to your location. Then we do an intelligent text-search to match correlated tweets to Facebook events, based on the events’ name. We rank the popularity of the events based on the tweet and retweet counts of that events. Events then are plotted on google map, each have a color-coded marker to indicate their popularity. Once you click on the icon, you can see all the corresponding tweets, including the tweets’ author, tweet-time, text and image. We start with Northwestern University. More universities are being added to the service. At the end, we will be able to provide nearby-events search based on any given location.
