Inspiration

Every member of the team has a love for music and we wanted to learn something new at TreeHacks so we decided to explore the Spotify API.

What it does

Our original idea was to connect two or more Spotify accounts, merge the data, and create a playlist that would incorporate everyone’s music taste. For example, if you’re hosting a party, everyone can submit their Spotify accounts or playlists and the application will act as sort of a virtual DJ that can read the music taste of the people in the room and find the perfect playlist for everyone. Unfortunately, we were not able to complete our project, but we learned a lot in the process of making it.

How I built it

We experimented with several different ways of using the Spotify API. Eventually, we settled on a web app using jQuery and Javascript.

Challenges I ran into

We were all new to using APIs and found the process of accessing the data to be more difficult than expected.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Our team had never worked with APIs before this hackathon. For some of us, it was our very first hackathon.

What I learned

I learned how to work with APIs and make HTTP requests.

What's next for Spotify API Exploration

We would like to continue the work that we've been doing and eventually complete the goal of our project.
