Inspiration
Our idea was drawn from the desire to connect with others based on arguably the most important aspect of anyone's life: music taste. We wanted to create a platform that allows users to connect with others who share their music preferences, helping foster meaningful connections and friendships.
What it does
Spotifriend is a swipe-based matching app that allows users to connect with others based on their music preferences. Users can sign up and link their personal Spotify account, allowing them to match with other users who share similar music tastes.
How we built it
We built Spotifriend using a combination of modern web development technologies, including a frontend with React.js for a dynamic user interface, while the backend is powered by Node.js, providing a robust and scalable server architecture. The Spotify API was used to fetch user music preferences and facilitate matching algorithms. In addition, MongoDB was used as our database technology to securely store user data.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing our desired swipe-based functionality into our app took a significant portion of time to work through. The OAuth connection with Spotify also proved to be a challenge for our team.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team successfully implemented the Spotify API into our app to allow for users to link their personal Spotify accounts. We also implemented a responsive swipe-based user interface reminiscent of other mainstream swipe-focused applications.
What we learned
Our team gained experience with API integration and full-stack development. Enhancing our knowledge of React, Node, and MongoDB proved to be an excellent experience for our group.
