Inspiration

We noticed that many people want to play sports but struggle to find others who share the same interests, skill level, or availability. Whether it’s finding enough players for a basketball game, a tennis partner, or a soccer group, organizing a pickup game can often be the hardest part. We wanted to create a way for people to easily connect, stay active, and build stronger communities through sports.

What it does

SportyBuddy is a platform that helps people discover and join pickup games with others nearby. Users can choose their favorite sports, find players with similar interests, and connect with teammates for activities like basketball, tennis, soccer, and more. By making it easier to find games, SportyBuddy encourages physical activity, social connection, and community engagement.

How we built it

We designed SportyBuddy with a focus on simplicity and accessibility. We built a user-friendly interface where people can select sports, view available players, and connect with others looking for games. We focused on creating a smooth experience that makes finding teammates quick and effortless.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was designing a system that could match people based on multiple factors, including sport preference, location, skill level, and availability. We also had to think about how to make the app welcoming for both experienced athletes and beginners who are just looking to get active and meet new people.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created a solution that addresses a real community problem: helping people overcome the barrier of finding teammates. SportyBuddy transforms sports from an individual activity into a way for people to connect, collaborate, and build friendships.

What we learned

Through building SportyBuddy, we learned the importance of designing around real user needs. We discovered that even simple ideas can have a meaningful impact when they solve everyday problems. We also improved our skills in teamwork, problem-solving, user experience design, and rapid development under hackathon constraints.

What's next for SportyBuddy

Moving forward, we want to expand SportyBuddy with features like real-time game creation, location-based recommendations, skill-level matching, player ratings, and community events. Our goal is to make SportyBuddy the easiest way for anyone to find a game, meet new people, and stay active.
