Inspiration

I initially joined this hackerthon to push myself to commit to building an MVP of a different idea. As an experienced product security engineer I realised that I needed to comply with data privacy and AI regulation in the EU even for the cookie popup. This lead me to building smartpriv, because how many submissions actually added GDPR, CCPA etc. compliant cookie policy, terms of use, privacy policy? So i built a solution to solve my own problem, dog fooded it, and now other devs can use it.

What it does

We transform privacy compliance from a costly legal burden into a seamless, actionable and easy 5 minute solution. Smartpriv scans your website, uses our SmartPriv AI to analyse your compliance posture, gives you a comprehensive report and actionable fixes by generating personalized, legally sound and comprehensive policies to improve your data privacy requirements.

How we built it

Bolt was used for the frontend, many iterations of different personas to get the maximum value and accuracy in the building the ideas that I had. Cursor to write some of the service logic. Netlify to do CI/CD and DNS, Cloudflare for first line of defense and CDN caching. Superbase for persistant storage. Lots of research on competitors, we're not a competitor, we're a disruptor.

Challenges we ran into

incorrect and insecure code generated. I had to perform a manual code review and quick pentest to make sure everything was secure. the default node version for a new project is node 18 and the dependencies have vulnerabilties so i had to do a bit of work to use LTS versions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I actually built an idea I had, it looks better than I thought it would and 2 product features are fully functional with my proprietory SmartPriv analysis and starter pack.

What we learned

I learnt that building your ideas is no longer that complicated and that can actually lead to better ideas. I also learnt a lot about the marketing and product management side which I used to position the product and how words make an impact.

What's next for SmartPriv

get 1000 users to try the solution. Looking for early investors and my lawyer partner is joining the team.
