Our Project

Athletion.co | Athletion is the first ever platform where people can find matches and hone their sports skills in real time, on the real world. We are a sports brand that strives to bring people (no matter their background in sport) together while making meaningful memories.

Why we built it

It all started when a member of our team came across a boy. This boy wasn't talented at basketball; hence, he wasn't chosen by any of the two teams playing. With no one to play with and no platform to do so, how can other little boys like him play and eventually fall in love with a sport? Sports are for everyone, after all.

This is where Athletion comes to play. Our team consisting of three unathletic and underachieving college students, are determined to make sure that anyone can get into sports; and make sure little kids can have fun doing so.

What Athletion Does

The Athletion Project provides you with a polished system with directed sports catalogs of your choosing with top-of-the-line yet simple features. So whether you're into dribbling a basketball or hearing the sound of a shuttlecock bounce up against the floor, Athletion's got you covered. Find what best fits your schedule, at a moment's notice, all in the contentment of your fingertips.

To put it simply, Athletion allows and expedites people of all ages to find and create sports events with our user-friendly website.

Features

1. Post Requests Athletion allows users to post an event. There, users can choose an event name, choose what sport they want themselves and others to play, a region of their choosing, and finally, the address of said location.

2. Matches Here, Athletion users can filter matches of their liking. They could also find sport events that other users have created.

3. Schedule After joining an event, users can see the time, date, and address of the event they've chosen.

4. Chatroom After requesting to join an event, users of Athletion can interact and talk to each other. This helps users to get familiar with who they're playing with/against.

Challenges we ran into

The most noticable challenge in our eyes was the fact that we were still beginners. Due to the lack of experience, we were missing a few much needed soft skills in the industry. These soft-skills include: lack of time management, team coordination, and lack of composition.

In terms of our code, we utilized traditional technologies that fall short when compared to other technologies/languages like react and angular. It's also good to note that this is our first time using a firebase.

What we learned

A better allocation of our roles were needed. Due to this, precious time was wasted.

Additionally, due to the world of web development, we learned plenty of new skills that could potentially plunge us to greater heights. in the world of programming And for that, we are eternally grateful.

What's next for Project Athletion

With the launch of our website, the Athletion team hopes to make the website more user-friendly than it already is, and to create a user identification system that allows users to signup/login, and view their own/other people's profiles. Additionally, the team agrees that creating a mobile app would be beneficial as 66.85% of people have mobile devices in the world (according to bankmycell). By utilizing this statistic, Athletion can grow its userbase and make more people find pleasure in sports.
