How we built it

POURQUOI Sportcity was born out of my passion for sport and frustration during my travels. I realized that cities were not able to keep up with their sports equipment, communicate with citizens/users and had no feedback on the user experience. So I created Sportcity which vision is to fight against sedentary lifestyles and to remove all barriers to physical activity and sport in order to make sport effective for all.

QUOI Sportcity is a mobile application available under IOS and Android in test in Montreal since September 2019. It is the first intelligent platform for urban sports that allows you to exploit and control the existing sports ecosystem. We enable the cities of tomorrow to be better connected and to share the entire amateur sports offer. This offer includes two major areas:

• A digital mapping of all outdoor sports facilities
• A standardised and digitised listing tool for garage tournaments

TODAY We have a digital mapping of more than 800 outside sport courts in Montreal. Out mapping allows users to knwo in real time when and where people gather to play in real time. It also allows them to create their own time play statistics and to give feedback about the courts quality and overall experience.

WHAT'S NEXT ? DONNÉES QUÉBEC has just published in February 2020 new open source data on the census of outdoor sports facilities. The city of Montreal and more broadly, the province of Quebec are wondering about the following problem: How can we use this data to promote physical activity, active mobility, sport and the urban outdoors?

The next steps for Sportcity are therefore :

• Integrate this data and help Quebec in the response to the above-mentioned problem.
• Develop a new functionality to allow the listing of garage tournaments, registration and payment online.
• Start thinking broader and look at other major Canadian cities.
