Inspiration

Due to these reasons of needing a good user friendly finance management app that not only allows the user to register their transactions and spending but at the same time provide them with maximum entertainment our team was assembled. Since hell’s week is approaching and everyone is in the mood to scare themselves silly we thought a little twist to the presentation would make it lively and less of a tedious exercise in financial management.

What it does

From the above highlights of the features of the website, one can easily make transaction, view and organize spending, get alerts and filtered news, and financial management in a secure environment. The features of the app are to predict fraud, auto-generate transaction history and spend analysis categorized by expense type. It also informs the users with important business news so as to keep them informed about the broader markets. The use of Halloween makes the finance journey much more exciting and fun, because of this theme.

How we built it

We have created the Spooky Spender app, in which we use MongoDB for the storage of all the data; user information as well as transaction information is safely and effectively managed here. For the security of users’ information, user authentication is from Auth0 to allow people to sign in. It was given the capability to automatically generate and update the users’ transaction history as well as offer categorized oversights of their spending.The frontend is personalized with Halloween design, so the conception makes the interface easy to use and scary at the same time.spending but also makes the experience engaging. With Halloween around the corner, we thought a spooky theme would add a fun twist, making finance management feel less like a chore and more enjoyable.

Challenges we ran into

Two difficulties we faced include implementation of a secure identifier for users as well as secure storage of transaction data. Implementing Auth0 was done after implementing certain configurations in order to allow optimum stability while achieving security features and the user experience. Moreover, making categories and preparing insights clear and comprehensible was challenging since it required creating a structure that corresponds to users’ consumptions. Finally, creating the Halloween theme and trying to maintain an easily navigable and functional interface was another difficulty, but it was a fun one.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It is our joy having been able to create a finance app that is not only functional but also fun. Some of the achievements we are proud of include: effective implementation of fraud detection tools, proper authentication using Auth0, and optimum storage of data using MongoDB. Designing a Halloween theme that augments the user experience without overpowering it is another feature, which makes Spooky Spender unique in the intersection of finance apps.

What we learned

In this project, we understood the nuances related to the processing of financial information and the degree of protection needed and the need to find a balance between protection and convenience. Fields where we got experience were Auth0 integration and MongoDB for handling user data. We also discovered the importance of making financial information as appealing as possible so that users are in a better position to decide on how to spend their money.

What's next for SPOOKY SPENDER

The future developments of the game are also subject to the improvements, foreseen with further updating of Spooky Spender’s appearance and adding more options of personalization of the theme of other holidays and celebrations. We are also thinking about the enhancement of the fraud analytics, maybe adding elements of machine learning for the purpose of prediction. Finally, we want to increase the level of financial information and instruments for personal money management.
