Inspiration
The college selection and application process can be very tedious, especially when you don't know where to start. Our website gives high school seniors the perfect starting place when trying to decide the next steps!
What it does
Our website allows you to input your SAT and ACT scores and filter through schools to see if your scores are between each schools 25th and 75th percentile level for each test.
How I built it
We used React Js for our front end, along with bootstrap for some styling. Additionally, on the backend we used Node JS, Express Js, and Firebase for hosting, server-less functions, and NoSQL database.
Challenges I ran into
One the biggest challenges we ran into was actually setting up the project. Neither of us had very much experience in setting up projects on github and adding firebase, react, etc... So this took a substantial amount of time being able to correctly set everything up.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are proud of the website that we were able to create in such a short amount of time. We actually decided to start this project about an hour into the hackathon and we began from nothing. It was a lot of fun seeing our progress with developing the website, and we hope to continue working on it after the hackathon ends.
What I learned
One of the things that we learned was how to properly and efficiently set up a project. Additionally, we gained more experience with React and Express.
What's next for Spooky Spectacular School Selector
In the future, we hope to add more schools and more filters for the program, and create webpages for each school with their basic information and how it matches to the student. Future filters could possibly be location, majors, GPA, total population, athletic programs, etc.
