Inspiration

Google Now and Siri proofed the benefit and intelligence of machines reacting to users demands. The algorithms learn from the users requests and the results are getting more precise.

People are spending a lot of time coordinating and managing their projects using tools like Slack. During the day they want to stay up to date and to know whats going on.

Our approach is to to deliver content and ads to the user without the need for the user to leave his environment.

What it does

Integrate ads and content to apps which people are using every day.

Our Slack Bot delivers news articles from SPIEGEL Online and relevant ads to the user. Keywords extracted from the text (like sport, trending, latest or politik) are used to match content to ads.

How we built it

A Slack bot (Slash commands, PHP based) is communicating with a Go based middleware that is connecting to the SPIEGEL Online API for content, Media Impact for relevant ads and Tealium to store user profiles.

Challenges we ran into

Finding a working Slack bot module which supports formatted attachments to be able to post rich media ads.

Accomplishments that we’re proud of

Discovered something new.

What we’ve learned

Go saved us a lot of time.
