Inspiration
My mom always being kind enough to ask me what I wanted to eat for dinner but me never really having a good answer.
What it does
ByteToBite is a full stack web app that integrates the Google Gemini API to generate recipes with AI based on a list of ingredients input by the user
How we built it
React for the frontend, Node/Express for the backend, and Google Gemini API for AI integration
Challenges we ran into
This was my first project involving integrating AI, and navigating different prompting methods and parsing of the outputs was challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud of getting a finished product with a real-world use of the technologies presented to us in time for the deadline. It was a crazy weekend for my first hackathon with a lot of roadblocks and unexpected turns, and I'm just grateful to have had a good learning experience.
What we learned
I learned a lot about AI integration, prompt engineering, and full stack web development.
What's next for ByteToBite
I think ByteToBite could be expanded to include user accounts to allow people to save recipes in an online cook book. The AI could also help people pick or recommend existing recipes or track the frequency at which a user views certain recipes, flagging them as favorites. Other useful prompt factors to include would be dietary restrictions and time to cook.
