Inspiration
Our inspiration came from the struggles of being a college student while trying to afford basic necessities while living in the loop.
What it does
It takes a user's address and how far they are willing to travel to go get some groceries. Then it finds the most cost friendly item the person is looking for and where it is within the loop.
How we built it
We built using geocoding based off the user's inputs, then based off whatever store locations came back in their region, it found the most affordable option out of all of those.
Challenges we ran into
We initially wanted to web scrape using Selenium but it was too costly and taking way too long to scrape a specific store location website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to work together as a team even with different backgrounds and skill sets. We collaborated together to come up the idea and were able to problem solve everything.
What we learned
We learned how to adapt under pressure and come up with a solution that was best for the time we had. We learned more about the struggles many face when it comes to affording groceries within the Loop and the lack of resources many have.
What's next for SplitCart
We would like to expand outside the Loop region of Chicago, specifically where colleges are prominent. We have thought of going national with Split Cart allowing other states to experience having the website as well.
