Inspiration

What it does

The app scans the bill in a restaurant and then in a fun way helps you all split bills efortlessly. You do not need to register or download an app. Just go to the webapp and start having fun with paying! It allows you to split paying for one product also and in the end it chooses the healthiest person in the group.

How we built it

Web application with a ruby on rails backend. Receipt recognition engine written in Python, integration with tesseract.

Challenges we ran into

Time management
Writing a custom image segmentation algorithm for splitting the bill into items before running an OCR engine.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Managing the automatical scan to process the bill into a list where people select what they ate in a beautiful and cute graphics. The selection is ready to split the bill too and selects the healthies person from the group.

What we learned

Using a heavyweight framework like ruby on rails for a small projects is maybe not the most efficient way.
It is still possible to improve on the saturated market of bill splitting apps.
