Inspiration

Finding an easier solution to quickly split out bills in bulk rather than using complex excel spreadsheets

What it does

Takes an uploaded receipt and reads the data on the receipt, allowing the user to easily split the tab amongst friends and family

How we built it

Focused the development of the application around the MERN stack using Next.js and Veryfi API (OCR API)

Challenges we ran into

There were technical challenges around the OCR API and making sure that teammates weren't stepping on each other's toes

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Using lots of new technology that we haven't used before like Next.js, SaSS, and an OCR API to read the receipts

What we learned

We learned a lot about version control in GitHub while working on a very technical project

What's next for Split

We would love to integrate Venmo and allow users to itemize tabs for each receipt
