What it does

The Spirit of UofT is a visual depiction of a UofT student's assimilation into engineering life and society. The word "UoFT" is written out with a highlighter on a piece a paper with a car.

How we built it

Car movement and sensor readings were managed and programming using an Arduino Due. The cars motion is controlled by motor controls turning the wheels forward and backwards to control turns. A servo is used to lift up and down the highlighter by a car tracing out the letters. An RGB LED attached to a breadboard flashes colours and gives a countdown for the start of the the writing.

Challenges we ran into

Towards the end, we encountered hardware issues that with the motor control, unfortunately, we were unable to resolve in time. The motor control is finicky and unreliable. The turns made are inconsistent and sometimes only one wheel spun. These issues were pressing as they impacted our car's movement, thus impacting the the teams ability to reliably test the code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of enduring till the end and not giving prematurely. It's not about the end result, it's about the friends we made along the way (Tristan may have won the bet)

What we learned

Hardware is kinda fun but can be unreliable.
