Inspiration

Back pain has become a frequent issue for me since increasing my computer usage. I realized that many others, especially programmers, experience similar discomfort due to prolonged screen time and poor posture. This led to the idea of SpineSense—a tool designed to identify posture-related problems and provide tailored solutions for better spinal health.

What it does

SpineSense is an AI-powered posture correction tool that analyzes body posture using computer vision and machine learning. It detects improper posture habits, such as slouching or hunching, and provides real-time feedback to help users maintain a healthier sitting position. Additionally, SpineSense offers personalized recommendations for exercises and ergonomic adjustments based on detected issues.

How we built it

We developed SpineSense using the following technologies:

Computer Vision (OpenCV & Mediapipe): To track body posture and detect misalignments.

Machine Learning (TensorFlow & Scikit-Learn): For analyzing posture patterns and classifying different postural deviations.

Flask & React: To create an interactive and user-friendly interface.

Hardware Compatibility: Designed to work with webcams and external sensors for real-time monitoring.

Challenges we ran into

Pose Detection Accuracy: Ensuring accurate posture tracking required extensive fine-tuning of computer vision models.

Real-Time Feedback Optimization: Balancing performance and responsiveness to provide immediate posture correction tips.

User Adaptability: Designing a solution that accommodates different body types and sitting habits without false positives.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully integrating computer vision with health and anatomy for precise posture detection.

Developing a functional prototype that provides instant feedback and recommendations.

What we learned

The impact of prolonged computer use on spinal health and the importance of ergonomic solutions.

Advanced implementation of computer vision and AI for health applications.

The necessity of user-friendly design to ensure adoption and engagement

What's next for SpineSense

Mobile App Development: Expanding to mobile devices for on-the-go posture monitoring.

Smart Desk Integration: Implementing IoT-based features for height-adjustable desks that respond to posture changes.

AI-Powered Custom Workouts: Recommending AI-generated exercise plans based on individual posture issues.

Community & Analytics: Allowing users to track posture improvement over time and connect with health professionals for personalized guidance
