Inspiration
We were inspired by games like Celeste in creating an entertaining and immersive 2D Platformer.
What it does
The project drops the player into a world full of spikes and platforms, along with the ability to jump, and dash.
How we built it
We built this game in pico-8, using the language Lua.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into a couple of challenges during this project, using Lua. We were at first unable to implement the dash feature, although we were successful in eventually creating it. We also ran into some challenges implementing some other planned features, including a grenade launcher.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to implement good movement and mechanics. We're also proud we were able to get the camera to follow the character.
What we learned
We learned more about using Lua, the idiosyncracies of pico-8, and a greater depth of the intricacies and mechanics behind game development.
What's next for Spike Dash
We will implement new movement mechanics and also the possibility for enemies that the player has to fight.
