Inspiration
Students are very lonely at mason as people tend to just go to classes and then leave. And even if they meet up they don't know what to do. We made a solution to fix that last part.
What it does
This program takes in your position and the position of your friends and soon-to-be friends and finds all of the places to eat in the area between you so you can find the best spot to eat while each friend travels the smallest distance.
How we built it
We wrote the algorithm in javascript that requests the user's location and finds the location of the friend you want to meet and then uses an arcgisRest SDK that asks for all of the restaurants around the location. Then we hosted our html using AWS Lambda functions.
Challenges we ran into
Our group had never used AWS and had very little experience with javascript and html. So we had to learn a lot in a very short amount of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What we learned
We learned a lot about using HTML, javascript, and AWS and we want to learn more more.
What's next for spider on a fork
We are going to clean up the webpage. We are going to add functionality to suggest hangout spots specifically around GMU. In addition we will integrate Mason 360 events scraped from their website as suggestions for events to do. We also wanted to gamify this by adding achievements and such after people hangout to help encourage more social behavior.
