Inspiration Sphere AI was born out of a necessity for rapid response in a country where infrastructure is a daily target. In Ukraine, "infrastructure" isn't just pipes; it’s the electricity that keeps hospitals running, the gas that heats homes, and the parks that offer a moment of peace. Whether it’s a substation damaged by shelling, a shattered window after an explosion, or a broken bench in a city square, the gap between seeing a problem and fixing it can be life-threatening. We built Sphere AI to ensure that every citizen can trigger a recovery response in seconds.
What it does Sphere AI is an all-in-one multimodal GovTech agent designed to monitor and protect every layer of urban life. Citizens use Telegram to report any city issue—from power outages and gas leaks to broken monuments or damaged facades. Powered by Gemini 1.5 Flash, the agent identifies the specific utility category (Electricity, Water, Gas, Heat, or Urban Flora) and assesses the damage from video and photos. It acts as a 24/7 digital dispatcher that never sleeps and cannot be overwhelmed by the volume of reports.
How we built it We utilized a resilient Google Cloud stack to handle multimodal data in real-time:
Gemini 1.5 Flash: To analyze visual damage to power lines, gas pipes, or architectural elements and categorize them instantly.
Google Cloud Run: To maintain a high-speed, serverless backend that scales during emergencies.
Google Firestore: To create a transparent record of all urban issues, ensuring that repairs to vital services like heat and light are prioritized.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We created a system that "sees" the city's needs through the eyes of its people. Our agent can process a video of a damaged electrical substation and a photo of a broken park bench with the same precision, routing each to the correct municipal department instantly.
What's next for Sphere AI Our vision is a "Smart Recovery" system for all of Ukraine. We plan to integrate Sphere AI with state emergency services and local utilities to automate the dispatching of repair crews, ensuring that our cities remain functional and beautiful, even in the most difficult times.
