SpendWise

Inspiration

We realized most of us struggle with budgeting because traditional finance tools are boring, complex, and designed for adults. We wanted to change that. So, we reimagined money management as something fun, personalized, and wrapped in a Spotify-style experience. SpendWise was born out of the idea: what if your money could talk back to you like your favorite playlist recap?

What it does

SpendWise is your personal finance BFF. It tracks your spending habits, breaks down where your money goes, gives you a “Spending Personality,” unlocks achievement badges, and at the end of every month — it generates a creative, Gen Z-style Money Wrapped. Think “Spotify Wrapped” but for your wallet

How we built it

1. Python for building core analytics and logic
2. A simulated database of expenses to test categories, goals, and savings
3. Custom AI-generated summaries for hyper-personalized feedback
4. Designed a bold, gamified UI inspired by social platforms and music apps
5. Integrated streaks, badges, and personality types to make finance feel less like math and more like a vibe

Challenges we ran into

1. Making financial data feel cool and not intimidating
2. Balancing education + entertainment — without dumbing it down
3. Designing a “Wrapped” experience that’s truly personalized and not generic
4. Creating visuals that felt interactive and scroll-worthy, not corporate

2. Building a unique Spending Persona system that reflects your habits in a relatable way
3. Making budgeting feel like a game — complete with goals, streaks, and rewards
4. Designing an app that actually gets Gen Z and our relationship with money

What we learned

1. How to blend finance, psychology, and design to drive positive behavior
2. That UI/UX matters just as much as the logic behind it
3. How to write AI-generated copy that sounds human, helpful, and even humorous
4. The power of micro-interactions in making even boring data feel exciting

What's next for SpendWise

Adding real-time sync with actual bank accounts for live tracking Creating social features — compare streaks, share wrapped stats with friends Expanding AI to give weekly money tips based on behavior Partnering with brands to reward good money habits and finally.....
