Spendrs.com – Earn While You Email

Inspiration

The inspiration behind Spendrs came from a common realization: our inboxes are filled with shopping-related emails — order confirmations, receipts, delivery notifications — from platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and Walmart. These emails often get ignored after delivery.

I wondered — what if these emails could be turned into something valuable?

That led to the creation of Spendrs, a platform where users can create their own @spendrs.com email address and earn rewards automatically when they receive valid purchase receipts. The goal is to reward users for shopping they're already doing, while offering a secure, privacy-first inbox experience.

What it does

Spendrs is an email platform that offers:

  • Custom email addresses ending in @spendrs.com
  • Automatic detection of valid shopping receipts
  • Spendrs Coins (50 coins per order) for every genuine, delivered purchase
  • A redemption dashboard where 1000 coins = $5 in gift cards or exclusive deals
  • A Spending Analytics Dashboard that helps users track total purchases, categories, and reward trends
  • Privacy safeguards to scan only shopping-related emails
  • Future brand integrations for personalized offers and coupons

It's a mix of a traditional inbox, a rewards engine, and a brand engagement platform with smart analytics.

How I built it

Spendrs was built using Bolt.new, an AI-powered app builder that allowed me to quickly develop and deploy the platform with minimal setup.

Core Tech Stack (via Bolt):

  • React for frontend interface
  • Tailwind CSS for responsive, clean styling
  • Supabase for backend database and user authentication
  • TypeScript for type-safe development
  • Server logic and APIs managed through Bolt’s internal backend system

Bolt allowed me to focus on building the core rewarding logic, receipt parsing, and user dashboard, while handling infrastructure like hosting and deployment automatically.

Challenges I ran into

  1. Email Parsing:
    Identifying genuine purchase receipts across different platforms (Amazon, Flipkart, etc.) was a challenge due to varied formats. I had to implement logic to validate only completed, delivered orders.

  2. Reward Abuse Prevention:
    I had to design a system that prevents users from forwarding duplicate or fake emails to gain coins unfairly.

  3. User Trust and Privacy:
    Since the platform involves scanning user emails, ensuring transparency and privacy was crucial. Only specific shopping emails are scanned — no personal or promotional content is touched.

  4. Brand Partnerships:
    Establishing initial brand collaborations for gift card rewards required outreach and negotiation, especially as an early-stage platform.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • Launched a fully functional email platform with custom addresses and smart receipt detection
  • Designed and implemented a working rewards engine tied to actual user behavior
  • Built a clean, mobile-responsive dashboard where users can view purchases, rewards, and redeem options
  • Developed a full Spending Analytics Dashboard to visualize user spending trends and categories
  • Created a privacy-first system that builds trust from the start
  • Received positive initial feedback from early testers

What I learned

  • User behavior around inbox usage can be reimagined and gamified
  • Privacy is non-negotiable when dealing with personal data — guardrails must be in place from the beginning
  • Automation in parsing and classifying emails requires continuous refinement
  • Affiliate marketing and brand collaborations are viable revenue channels if built with trust and transparency
  • Platforms like Bolt.new are powerful tools for building MVPs quickly without managing infrastructure manually
